Beautiful boss babe, Bernesia Clarke started her business in cosmetics and has never looked back! Here is her experience as an entrepreneur!!!
I migrated from the beautiful Island Republic of Trinidad and Tobago 20 years ago with 50 dollars to my name. I came to Florida to pursue my passion in Fashion Design, which prompted me to enroll in the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale. I went through a difficult period when the economy crashed, losing everything I worked hard for. I call this part of my life “a fresh start”. I had to start completely over and tried my best to recover items that were lost in the process. Even though this experience was very difficult, it opened my eyes to appreciate the simple things in life. Not having family around made it a little harder, but I thank God and my friends that helped me get my life back on track. I started back working my 9 to 5 job and looked into starting back my business. From there on, my attention was shifted towards the skincare and cosmetics industry. I wanted the representation of my brand (the brand name) to stand on something that was close to my heart and that’s how Deux Marie stuck with me. Deux Marie means two Marie or two Marry in French, which are also my daughters’ middle names. I reached out first to a skincare manufacturer located right here in Florida and got some insights on how to start the process. It took us about six months to a year to perfect each product to where we needed it to be. Deux Marie Cosmetics is a vegan, organic, cruelty-free, paraben-free, toxic-free, brand. Deux Marie Cosmetics and Skincare was founded in September 2018 and debuted officially on the market six months later. My daughters are in charge of the logistics part of the business and I am in charge of marketing, accounting, formulating of new products, taking care of quality control of both the skincare and cosmetics brand, and customer service. Everything was done by us to get the brand to where it needed to be. We started off marketing to friends and family and later on attended a couple of expos locally. We have also established three brand ambassadors: Ornella Samuel, Soowan Bramble and Latifahh King. I’m forever grateful for these young ladies representing my brand. I also extend my gratitude to those who supported my brand from day one; my two beautiful daughters Destiny and Precious, and my sisters from another mother Melba, Youandie and Tabby. These ladies are my number one supporters. In the next 5-10 years, our company’s focus is to be a household care and beauty brand. We are currently working on our hair care line, which will be released later this year. Then we’ll extend our brand to swimwear. Above all, our focus is to help displaced mothers with children and give them a second chance in life. Helping them with job placement, education for both them as well as their children, and doing what we can to get them back on their feet. This world can be a rough and difficult place sometimes, but as a brand, Deux Marie just wants to be a company that others can connect with and love the skin you’re in. Life is beautiful and so are you. As women we need to feel comfortable in our own skin. It doesn't matter what society depicts as beautiful, WE ARE ALL BEAUTIFUL AND OWN IT! ● “LOVE THE SKIN YOUR IN!” BERNESIA CLARKE @DEUX_MARIECOSMETICS ● What are you waiting for?! Dr.Payal Debbarman has been an amazing doctor during this COVID-19 pandemic! Here is Dr.Payal Debbarman’s experience!
“The virus felt personal to me since the beginning. The first time I stepped in the OPD with COVID positive patients, I got blank. I felt chills, my skin felt dried & the PPE kit anyway made me breathless. With time, I got used to the trauma. When my mom called me, she said- “I don’t know when I will meet you next. We will meet again, right? But never forget, you are doing great!’ She was scared & frightened of the uncertainty. As doctors, our parents are going through rougher days when they see us going in an unseen warzone. It’s a battle where you can’t see the enemy, but the enemy can see you. Being a heart patient since birth, everyone around me showed concerned & asked me to take a break. I was in greater danger. But for me, work has been always foremost. It what made me feel upbeat, out there & profoundly happy. But with multiple masks, shields & helmets, it got claustrophobic. It felt a pain to see so many young & old people catching the infection. But you know, it was not me who gave them hope but the patients. In spite of being terrified, there was a soldier-like optimistic spirit in the wards. I have seen people chanting prayers together in the unit & sometimes just counting the rudraksha beads over & over again. It’s the faith we Indians have. No matter what we go through, that faith in God keeps the hope alive. The other day, a couple who were tested positive did not give two cares about the disease. All they wanted was to be in the same ward, near to one another. I smiled when the husband “demanded” that he wants his bed to be near his wife. They spoke all day when their beds were moved next to one another. When they got discharged, they went through the corridors holding hands & saying thank you to the nurses. I remember when I went back home from duty, my help said- “Didi, mere chote chote bache hain!” and added that she won’t be coming from the next day. I understood her concern. Within an hour, she called to apologize. She told how her husband scolded her for not being there for the doctors of our country. It was so moving that despite being uneducated, they were aware! I mean, there IS a little rainbow in the clouds too. All I have learnt is to look at that slight rainbow & smile. ● “A smile an get you through all kinds of blues, even in the darkest of pandemic!” DR.PAYAL DEBBARMAN @PIYU_0o7 ● What are you waiting for?!
