I have fought for woman rights and for the appreciation of the real body shaped woman’s designs. Many women come to me for comfort and for me to design for them after being rejected by other designers that have made them feel insecure because of their body type. My “Timeless Cuba” collection is inspired by my home country, the experiences I lived as a young girl come to life via this colorful collection. I shot each image in Cuba and transferred them onto fabric by a sublimation process. The images used for this pieces of art, include my great grandmother’s kitchen tiles, the church where I attended as a little girl, parks where I played and places that made a difference during my childhood.” YAS GONZALEZ @YASGONZALEZOFFICIAL CREATIVE DIRECTOR @HOUSEOFYAS_ ● El Cuban-American fashion designer Yas Gonzalez studied fashion design at the Miami University of Art and Design, Earned an Industry Essentials Certification at The New School Parsons, New York City, NY; Journalism and Communications at Florida International University and Broadcasting at Art Institute of Miami. While still in school, Yas launched a successful swimwear line that caught the attention of the fashion industry. This initial success is what motivated Yas to officially start her own line and open the doors to House of Yas, where haute couture meets Caribbean flair. Behind the doors of her atelier in Miami, one can find anything from a dress for brunch, to a red carpet-worthy piece. Through the years her portfolio has grown to be something to marvel at. Talent and hard work are evident when you have names like Carolina Herrera, Oscar de la Renta, Alexander McQueen, Balmain or Christian Louboutin on your roster! Her designs have been worn for various music videos as well star-studded stages and numerous red carpets for Grammys, Latin Grammys, Emmys, Billboards, Latin Billboards, Premios Tu Mundo, Premios Juventud, Tony Awards, Latin Songwriters Hall of Fame Awards, Premio lo Nuestro and American Music Awards. From Pitbull, to Jennifer Lopez, Ricky Martin, Gente de Zona, and Alejandro Sanz, Yas continues to expand her influence in the fashion world. So far it seems that there is nothing she won’t do or project she will not take on in order to succeed. Her dedication is clear when looking through the list of magazines and events that have featured her work: Vogue, British Vogue, People en Español, People, Vanity Fair, British Vanity Fair, British GQ, Mercedez Benz Swim Week, Fort Lauderdale Fashion Week, South Florida Fashion Week, Miami Fashion Week, Vancouver Fashion Week, The Royal Gala-Dubai and New York Fashion Week. She has also been the main designer at Miami Swim Week for 2 years. This year Yas Gonzalez is nominated for best wardrobe at La Joya Fashion Film Festival in San Francisco, California. She is now showing her Timeless Cuba Collection. A collection inspired by Cuba’s most nostalgic places. In this collection, you will get to see Cuba through the designer’s eyes. Each piece was carefully elaborated to truly represent the most beautiful aspects from her home country. The fabric used to craft each piece was created by Yas herself using images that she captured during her last trip to Cuba – such as the floor tiles at her grandmother’s house. Timeless Cuba is easy to love, whether you are Cuban and want to wear a piece of home, or you simply want to own a beautiful piece of art that is as unique as it is colorful and meaningful to its fullest. Timeless Cuba has gained positive acceptance from buyers around the globe and has been featured in international publications along with the acceptance of celebrities that fell in love with this collection. Now Yas Gonzalez has earned major respect from everyone being the first Cuban American Designer to show her “timeless Cuba” collection at Paris Fashion Week Studio show at Paris Hotel D’Evreux, Place Vendôme, the very heart of Paris. ● What are you waiting for?!
